Carlene Hutchins' Mezzo Violin / Viola
This is hand carved with the neck and string length of a 14 inch violin, but it has a 15 inch body to fill out the lower strings. She designed the body thinner so that it would match the internal air volume of a typical Stradavari or Guarnieri violin. This has a Western Red Cedar belly with Rosewood ribs, an African Mahogany back, and an inlaid finger board. It has been carefully tuned to Carlene's specifications and comes with the possibility of being strung as a 5 string viola/violin, or as a 4 string (either one). Because of it's projection it can work well for a Viola for smaller players.

Carlene Hutchins' Alto Violin
- a 20 inch vertical Viola
This hand carved Viola utilizes Western Red Cedar for the belly and Flamed Red Maple for it's neck, ribs, back, and finger board. The plates have been graduated and tuned for optimum resonant frequencies in an attempt to give you power and projection from top to bottom of the instruments range.
Known as a vertical viola because it is played upright like a Cello. It was designed to give a Viola the brightness and power associated with world class violins. It's depth and power are truly impressive.
